LOST FAITH

LOST FAITH

by Ron Brown (2020)

Weeping endures for a night!
In the darkness tears are shed.
Joy comes with the morning’s light;
To banish all sorrow and dread.

Hope says, “Man open your eyes!
She says, “look unto the light!”
But man only groans and cries;
“Tell me how long is the night?”

“How long is the night?” aloud he pleads.
“I could make it if only I knew;
From night’s foul fears I would be freed;
From darkness I’d spring anew.

I would break these cold black chains;
Throw them into night’s ebony sea;
Jump aboard the freedom train;
No more tears and pain for me.

But, the night is too damn long.”
He moans a mournful refrain.
With all hope and faith now gone.
He sinks into grief once again.

Weeping endures for a night!
In the darkness tears are shed.
Joy comes with morning’s light;
To banish all sorrow and dread.

But these words to him are dead.
To him there’s no coming light.
Just one question fills his head:
Tell me how long is the night?”

  1. Soooo Powerful !!! I LOVE IT!
    If only we knew the answer to “how long is the night?”
    You have said, so masterfully here, the thing that so many of us have been thinking but could not find the words to properly verbalize!
    We want to know when we’ll feel better again. Where is the light? How long will we be stuck in this long night?
    Thank you for this blessing! And that voice tho!
