TAPS
At ease squad, crew, and flight,
For easy is the path ahead.
The way is clear. The burden is light;
No more sand, or mud, to tread.
24 notes have been played.
1 more wreath has been solemnly hung.
21 guns were fired over your grave.
23 words have been sung:
“Day is done,
Gone the sun,
From the hills; from the lakes; from the sky.
All is well.
Safely rest.
God is nigh!”
We’re thankful for your sacrifice.
All gave, but you gave your all.
You paid the price with your life.
You so readily answered the call.
Now, 24 notes have been played.
1 more wreath has been solemnly hung.
21 guns were fired over your grave.
23 words have been sung:
“Now the night,
Ends the fight
The battle’s done and the victory is won
All is well
All is well
God is nigh!”
Go quickly now! Tell Him your story
Who judges the quick and the dead?
God in his infinite wisdom and glory;
Only He knows why you died and bled.
For, 24 notes have been played.
1 more wreath has been hung.
21 guns were fired over your grave.
23 words have been solemnly sung:
“Yonder, a ferry,
Waiting to carry
You over the waters of the great River Styx.
Eternal peace.
Restful peace.
God’s got your six.”

Sorry I’m late Ron (another of my catch up times!).
Stirring poetry, sent shivers on my arms.
Being in the UK this would resonate on the 11th November.
The message is universal though.
Has to be reblogged

Reblogged this on heroicallybadwriter and commented:
A very moving poem by Ron written by on the USA’s memorial day. And yet the message is universal.
